Polish-born Madeleine Hunt lived in Warsaw under the communists during the Eighties Martial Law years and was an early activist with the Solidarity resistance movement. Now she is general secretary of the Heritage Party and says our rulers are using exactly the same techniques to remove our freedoms that the Communists used in Poland. Madeleine explains how to fight back at the local council level. Also on the menu: Pope John Paul II wasn’t a goodie; life under martial law; why opting out of the political system isn’t the solution; the threat of prison will surely concentrate the mind of a council apparatchik; how Reform showed their true colours when they were running Kent council. https://heritageparty.org

A very interesting podcast.

Alas, even if more councillors were to question whether there is a genuine requirement for more building, I'm not sure it would lead to success in overturning inappropriate applications.
Nine councils have had planning responsibilities removed from them for inadequate 'speed and quality' when handling applications for 'major developments'. This includes applications for ten or more homes. Councils are expected to keep the number of planning refusals overturned on appeal to 10% or less. Planning decisions for the nine councils are being dealt with by the Planning Inspectorate until further notice.
I would be interested to know what Madeleine Hunt thinks of this.

Hi James, This was brilliant and eye opening. I have been fighting plans for ridiculous numbers of houses across the road from us. I would like to send this podcast to one of the Sevenoaks District councillors who is someone I know and who would be sympathetic. However as I cant send it to her off my Substack as it's for paid subscribers only - I think you should make it free. (I have just transferred my paid subscription from Substack to your website). Great questions James, but some worrying answers from the nice Madeleine.Sadly, I doubt we'll ever see a Heritage Party candidate in my neck of the woods either
